GH Highlight Me is a browser extension that highlights your GitHub username and custom identifiers on GitHub pages. This extension operates entirely locally on your device.

Data Collection

We do not collect any data. Specifically:

  • No personal information is collected
  • No usage analytics or tracking
  • No data is sent to external servers
  • No cookies are used
  • No third-party services are integrated

Local Storage

The extension stores your preferences locally on your device using the browser's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.sync). This includes:

  • Your username — The GitHub username to highlight
  • Custom identifiers — Additional keywords, team names, or usernames you want to highlight
  • Color preferences — Custom colors for username and identifier highlights

This data is synced across your devices via your browser account (Chrome Sync or Firefox Sync), but is never accessible to us or any third party.

Permissions

The extension requires minimal permissions to function:

  • activeTab — To access the current GitHub page and apply highlights
  • storage — To save your preferences locally
  • Host permission — Limited to github.com only

Third-Party Services

This extension does not use any third-party services, analytics, or tracking tools. All functionality is self-contained.

Children's Privacy

This extension does not collect any information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age.

This extension is completely open source. You can review the source code on GitHub to verify our privacy practices yourself.
